SIOUX FALLS, SD – Sioux Falls Canaries Field Manager Mike Meyer has announced Thursday morning that Pitching Coach Ben Moore will return to the coaching staff for the 2018 season.

Moore was arguably the greatest pitcher is Sioux Falls Canaries history, finishing his 12-year career in 2014. Ben pitched for the Birds from 2008-2011, and again in 2013-2014. Ben holds several Canaries All-Time pitching records, including wins (55), games (121), and strikeouts (698).

2017 was Moore’s first year as the Canaries Pitching Coach, previously serving in the same position for the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League in 2015, and for the Laredo Lemurs of the American Association in 2016.

The Canaries pitching staff had a lot of bright spots in 2017. Grady Wood emerged as a top-3 starting pitcher in the American Association, relief pitcher James Jones had the best year of his career, which he attributed to small adjustments made while working side sessions with Moore.

“It was really important to have Ben back for the 2018 season,” says Canaries Manager Mike Meyer. “He is one of the brightest pitching coaches in all of minor league baseball, and I am lucky to have him by my side. He plays a big part in putting the roster together in the offseason, and is a great mind to bounce strategies off of in the middle of the game. He also keeps things light in the dugout with his great sense of humor, which is incredibly important when you play 100 games in 110 days.”

The Canaries 26th season kicks off with a home series against the American Association’s newest team, the Chicago Dogs. Don’t miss Opening Night and Friday Night Fireworks on May 18th!
