Bergin Named American Association Pointstreak Player Of The Week
SIOUX FALLS, SD—The Sioux Falls Canaries are pleased to announce that first-baseman, David Bergin has been named the American Association’s Pointstreak Player of the week.
The power hitting infielder had a big week for the Birds’, going 11-for-21 at the plate (.524 AVG) with three doubles, three home runs, and six RBI’s.
Bergin did most of his damage during a three game series over the weekend against the Winnipeg Goldeyes. In three games, the right-handed hitting first-baseman went 9-for-12 with two doubles, three home runs, and five RBI’s. He capped off the big weekend on Saturday night going 4-for-5, including an 8th inning homerun, his third in three games.
The Tampa, FL native continues to pace the Canaries offense in 2015, posting a team leading .348 batting average in 32 games played. Bergin leads the team in runs scored this season, and is in the top three of several other offensive categories, including hits, doubles, home runs, RBI’s and walks.
Bergin and the Canaries open up a three-game series on Monday night at home against the defending American Association Champion, Wichita WingNuts. Former South Dakota State University standout, Stephen Bougher (2-0, 5.06 ERA) will take the mound for the Birds’.
