SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Sioux Falls Canaries welcome another former big league arm to the Birdcage with the signing of Tanner Anderson.

Anderson has pitched in the majors during each of the last two seasons, with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2018 and Oakland Athletics in 2019. He joins the Birds on loan from the A's organization.

Anderson, 27, made five starts with the Athletics in 2019 with a 6.04 ERA over 22.1 innings pitched. He struck out 18 and walked seven over that span. The rest of the season he spent time with the Triple-A Las Vegas Aviators where he made 21 appearances (16 starts) over 96 innings pitched.

Anderson pitched in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization for four years after being drafted in the 20th round of the 2015 MLB draft out of Harvard University.

The Boynton Beach, Florida native quickly moved up the ranks in the Pirates organization. He posted a combined 2.83 ERA over 15 appearances between Rookie Level Bristol and Low-A West Virginia in 2015. He spent 2016 in Single-A West Virginia and High-A Bradenton holding a 3.58 ERA over 36 appearances and three starts.

Anderson spent the entire 2017 season at Double-A Altoona before getting his big league shot the following year. With the Altoona Curve, he held a 10-8 record over 30 appearances that included 19 starts. He threw 133.1 innings and held a 3.38 ERA that season.

The right-hander earned a Triple-A promotion with the Indianapolis Indians to start the 2018 campaign. On July 2, Anderson made his MLB debut out of the bullpen against the Los Angelas Dodgers where he threw two innings. He earned his first MLB win in his next appearance on July 15 against the Milwaukee Brewers throwing one inning in relief. He was sent back down to Triple-A until he earned a call-up in September. He amassed a 2.16 ERA over 8.1 in the month of September before being dealt to Oakland that offseason.
