Birds add former Rockies prospect

SIOUX FALLS – The Sioux Falls Pheasants and manager Steve Shirley announced on Tuesday the addition of outfielder Chandler Laurent to the 2013 roster.

Laurent, 25, has spent four years in the Colorado Rockies system. His most productive season was 2011, when he batted .284 with 15 home runs and 50 RBI with Class A Asheville. Showing both power and speed, he swiped 17 bases and legged out three triples.  

Last season, Laurent hit a combined .179 with two home runs and 27 RBI in 61 games between the Class A Asheville and Modesto affiliates.   

Laurent was selected by the Rockies in the 21st round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Delgado (La.) College.  He is a native of Sidell, La.
