KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Another fresh arm is headed to the Birds' bullpen. The Sioux Falls Canaries have signed right-hander Connor Leedholm, the club announced Thursday.
Leedholm started the 2019 season with the Sonoma Stompers in the California-based Pacific Association. The right-hander put up some impressive numbers, posting a 3.31 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 16 relief appearances. He walked just three batters in 19 innings of work.
The move brings the total number of players on the Birds' roster to 23, the league maximum.
2019 is Leedholm's second season of professional baseball; he joined the Frontier League's Gateway Grizzlies as a true rookie in 2018. The Lakewood, Colorado native made 15 relief appearances for the St. Louis-area club that season, recording a 4.86 ERA.
Leedholm pitched at the University of Northern Colorado from 2014 to 2018. He made a career-high 26 appearances his senior year with a 3.37 ERA.
The Canaries are on a two-week road trip; they return home on August 12 for a rivalry series with the Sioux City Explorers.
