Birds Add Young Arm
SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Canaries are pleased to announce that they have signed right-handed pitcher, Chris Comito.
Comito, 22, has spent the past 4 seasons in the Chicago White Sox organization, reaching the Class A level in 2017. The 2015, 15th round draft pick out of Norwalk, Iowa High School has been a consistent innings eater in his career. Making 70 total appearances, 61 of those being starts, Chris has thrown 348 innings, struck out 263 batters, and carries a career 1.45 WHIP.
“We are very pleased to have Chris join our staff this season,” says Canaries Manager Mike Meyer. “He is a big kid who has still not quite grown into his body, so we feel there is a lot of potential there. His 6’6” frame creates a tremendous downward angle on his fastball, making his low 90’s velocity seem a lot firmer. He has shown great control so far in his young career. We plan on him playing a big role in our rotation.”
The Canaries kick off their 2019 season down south, facing off against the Cleburne Railroaders on May 16th. The Birds begin their home schedule on Friday, May 31st against the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Be sure not the miss the first Friday Night Fireworks show, presented by Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital following the action.
