SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Sioux Falls Canaries announced Friday afternoon that they have resigned INF Patrick Fiala and signed RHP Joe Iorio.
Fiala, 23, joined the Birds on August 11th after finishing his collegiate career at Augustana University. Patrick immediately made a great impression, slashing .320/.352/.540/.892 with 3 long balls and 13 runs batted in only 15 games played. Not only was the Sioux Falls native stellar at the plate, but he also provided great versitility in the infield, seeing time at third, second, and first base.
"We see Patrick providing outstanding versitility on the diamond once again," said Canaries GM Duell Higbe. "We know he is working very hard this offseason and look forward to seeing his progression in 2017."
Iorio, 24, spent part of the 2016 season with the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League. Over his professional career, Joe has tallied 40 innings and averages just over 1 strikeout per inning pitched. The Nokomis, Florida native looks to land a spot in the back end of the Birds bullpen.
The Canaries begin their 25th season on May 18th in Sioux City against the Explorers. For more information about season tickets and corporate opportunities, call the Canaries front office at (605)336-6060 or visit www.sfcanaries.com.
