Birds Blow Out Saltdogs To Clinch Series
The Sioux Falls Canaries won big in Lincoln on Sunday, dispatching the Saltdogs 12-3 for their third road series win of the year.
Jordan Dean went 5-for-6 for the Birds in the win, the second five-hit game by a Canary this season.
The Birds took a 1-0 lead in the second when Jabari Henry scored on a wild pitch and a throwing error by Lincoln catcher Daniel Herrera. A wild pitch from Birds starter Miles Nordgren allowed the tying run to score in the bottom of the frame.
From there, the Canaries would score eleven unanswered runs. The onslaught started in the third, when Chris Grayson and Mike Hart both hit RBI singles to give the Canaries a 3-1 lead.
The Birds scored seven runs in the fourth inning. Dean brought in the first two with a triple to right. Henry and Hart each drove in a run before Patrick Fiala capped off the inning with a three-run homer. Fiala's sixth blast of the year made it 10-1 Birds, putting the game out of reach.
Canaries starter Miles Nordgren pitched six strong innings, allowing one run on five hits. He struck out a season-high six while only walking one batter.
The Birds padded their lead in the sixth inning, when Dean and Bergin both knocked RBI singles. Dean finished the game with three RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases.
Lincoln scored two in the ninth, including a solo home run by T.J. Bennett, to bring the game to its final score.
The Canaries head back home to Sioux Falls on Monday for the first of a three-game series with the St. Paul Saints. Dylan Thompson will start for Sioux Falls; Trevor Foss will start for St. Paul. Birds fans can get tickets to the game at the Sioux Falls Stadium box office or by calling 336-6060.
