Birds Bring Back 2017 Home Run Leader Jabari Henry
SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries announced the re-signing of outfielder Jabari Henry on Tuesday morning.
Henry, 27, is fresh off a historic season, tying the clubs single-season home run record with 29 long balls. Jabari has always been a power threat, slugging 74 home runs in parts of 5 minor league seasons prior to joining the Canaries. The Orlando, Florida native led the Canaries in all major offensive categories in 2017, finishing with a .302/.401/.617/1.018 slash line, 71 runs scored, 72 runs batted in, and 48 walks. As impressive as those numbers are, what’s more impressive is Henry did that while missing the first two weeks of the season with a hamstring injury.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Jabari back for next season,” says Canaries Skipper Mike Meyer. “He put together one of the most impressive offensive seasons the organization has ever seen, leading the league in home runs while missing the first part of the season. He can do so many things with the bat, he hits for power, hits for average, and puts together quality at bats. Jabari is one of, if not the most dangerous hitter in the league, and makes our lineup much deeper. We feel like the Birdcage was built for a player like him. His high fly-ball percentage plays perfectly into our ball parks dimensions.”
The Birds kick off their season with a home series, starting on Friday, May 18th against the Chicago Dogs. For more information on Group Outings, Suites, Ticket Packages, and Corporate Opportunities, call the Canaries Front Office at (605)336-6060 or visit the official website at www.sfcanaries.com.
