Birds Complete A Trade With Redhawks, Acquire Versatile Outfielder
SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries announced Friday morning that they have acquired OF Chris Grayson from the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks in exchange for RHP Andrew Woeck.
Grayson, 28, is coming off a fantastic 2017 campaign with the division rival Redhawks. In 57 games, he finished with a .290/.372/.443/.815 slash line, racking up 22 extra-base hits, 41 runs batted in, and stealing 26 bases. Grayson is no stranger to the Canaries Organization, having played in 89 games between 2015 and 2016. Prior to joining the Independent ranks, Chris was a 13th round draft pick in 2011 by the Texas Rangers, reaching Double-A Frisco in 2014.
“I am thrilled with the addition of Chris to our roster,” says Canaries Manager Mike Meyer. “After watching him last year, I admired his hard-nosed, grinding style of play night in and night out. There is no tougher out in this league with guys on base. His unique skill set of power, speed, and on-base skills that will fit perfectly in the top half of our lineup.”
The Canaries open up their season on Friday, May 18th against the American Association’s newest club, the Chicago Dogs. Be sure to stick around after the game for Friday Night Fireworks brought to you by Orthopedic Institute.
