Birds Ink RHP Dylan Thompson
SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries announced Monday morning that they have agreed to terms with right-handed pitched Dylan Thompson.
Thompson, 25, returns for his third campaign in a Birds uniform. Over the past two seasons, Thompson has been one of the most consistent performers on the Canaries pitching staff. Appearing in a total of 63 games, Dylan has compiled 114.2 innings to go along with a solid 3.45 ERA. In 2017, the hard throwing sinker-baller represented the Canaries in the American Association’s All-Star Game after a dazzling first half. Although Thompson spends half of his time in the hitter friendly Birdcage, he has done a phenomenal job of keeping the ball in the ballpark, allowing only 3 home runs.
The Snow Camp, North Carolina native has spent his offseason playing in the highly regarded Australian Baseball League. Through 13.2 innings pitched, Thompson has been lights out, carrying a 2.63 ERA, while having a stellar 17:1 strike out to walk ratio.
“After Dylan’s All-Star campaign last season, we are moving him into the rotation,” says Manager Mike Meyer. “Dylan is a talented young pitcher who features a true power sinker. We want to take advantage of his high ground ball rate, especially in the Birdcage. He is a tireless worker and a great teammate. We expect Dylan to shine in his new role.”
The Canaries season kicks off with a home series on Friday, May 18th at 7:05pm against the Chicago Dogs. Don’t miss the popular Friday Night Fireworks, brought to you by Orthopedic Institute, following the conclusion of the game.
