Canaries add experienced arm to bullpen
SIOUX FALLS – The Sioux Falls Canaries loaded another weapon into their bullpen arsenal by signing former Toronto Blue Jays prospect Matt Daly on Friday.
Daly, 26, is a right-hander with five seasons of professional experience, including 60 career saves and 76 appearances at the Class AA level. He spent all of 2012 with the Blue Jays Double-A New Hampshire affiliate, going 2-4 with a 4.52 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 47 appearances.
“Matt comes from a really good background with a great track record,” Canaries manager Steve Shirley said. “I anticipate him competing for a spot as our closer.”
The Florida State League named Daly a Midseason All-Star in 2010 for a standout campaign with the High-A Dunedin Blue Jays. Daly notched 31 saves, second most in the league, while posting a 2-2 record with a 2.50 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 57 2/3 innings.
Daly hails from Yorba Linda, Calif. He was a 13th-round 2008 draft pick of the Blue Jays from the University of Hawaii.
The Sioux Falls Canaries begin their 21st season on May 16, 2013. Their home opener is May 17 against the Sioux City Explorers. Information about season tickets and advertising with the Sioux Falls Canaries is available by calling (605) 336-6060 or visiting www.sfcanaries.com.
