Canaries Add Pitching Depth To Roster
SIOUX FALLS, SD– The Sioux Falls Canaries are excited to announce the signing of RHP’s Ray Hanson and Byron Minnich for the 2015 season.
Hanson appeared in eight games for the Frontier League’s River City Rascals in 2014, going 4-1 with a 3.53 ERA before having his contract purchased by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in late June. He was immediately sent to their class A advanced affiliate, Inland Empire 66ers of the California League, finishing the season with a 4-5 record and 4.00 ERA while striking out 55 batters in 72 innings.
The 6-foot-7 right-hander holds a 17-10 record and 3.74 ERA while striking out 184 batters in two full professional seasons.
The 25-year-old Minnich recorded 44 strikeouts in 35 games last season for the United League’s Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings before making his American Association debut on August 21st with the Laredo Lemurs.
The rookie reliever made five appearances for the Lemurs during their late season playoff push, allowing just one earned run on four hits over five innings.
Minnich made 40 total appearances in 2014, posting a 1-1 record and 1.29 ERA while striking out 48 batters over 42 innings.
