SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Canaries announced a few transactions Friday morning, re-signing pitchers Luis Pollorena and Mark Seyler, and signing rookie infielder Nyles Norgaard.

Pollorena, 27, returns for his second season in a Birds uniform after a fantastic 2018. The do-it-all pitcher appeared in 14 games, tossing 30.1 innings, allowing 27 hits and only 2 walks. The southpaw held opponents to a .233 batting average against, and finished with a 3.56 ERA, and a stellar 0.96 WHIP.

“Pollo was arguably our most valuable arm from last season because of his vesitility,” stated Canaries skipper Mike Meyer. “We used him in every situation possible last year, and we look for him to play a vital role both on and off the field.”

Seyler, 24, will also return for his second season in Sioux Falls. The mid-season acquisition pitched in 8 games, starting 7 of them. In 41.2 innings, Mark held opposing batters to a .264 batting average.

“Re-signing Mark was a big priority for us this offseason,” says Meyer. “He is a young man with quality stuff, and has a good plan on how he wants to attack hitters. We see him help solidify our rotation, and keep us in the ball game every time he toes the rubber.”

Nygaard, 22, will be joining the Canaries for his first professional season after a very successful collegiate career at Western Oregon University. At WOU, Nyles competed in 90 games, finishing with a .305/.364/.470/.834 slash line, totaling 69 runs, 19 doubles, 9 home runs, and 72 RBI’s.

“Nyles will be a true rookie for us in 2019,” says Meyer. “He brings a solid glove to third base and is already a polished hitter at a young age. He also has some pop in his bat too, which will play well in our hitter friendly ballpark.”

The Birds expect their schedule to be released in the the next couple of weeks. For more information on Season Tickets and Corporate Partnerships, visit the Canaries Official Website at, or call the Front Office at (605)336-6060.
