Canaries announce 2017 season schedule
Sioux Falls, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries released their 100-game American Association regular season schedule on Tuesday morning. The Birds’ will open the 2017 campaign on the road on Thursday, May 18th against their I-29 rivals, the Sioux City Explorers. The Canaries home opener is set for Saturday, May 20th against the Explorers.
The Birds' will play a continuous 100-game schedule in the American Association. They will host 11 opponents over the course of their 50 game home schedule, including newcomers Cleburne Railroaders in early June. 25 of the 50 home games will be played on Friday-Sunday. Game times and promotional schedule will be announced at a later date.
The American Association features 12 teams in 2017 after the addition of Cleburne Railroaders earlier this fall. The League consists of three divisions – North, Central and South – The Canaries will once again play in the North Division with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, St. Paul Saints and defending AA 2016 Champs Winnipeg Goldeyes. The Central Division is comprised of the Gary SouthShore RailCats, Kansas City T-Bones, Lincoln Saltdogs and Sioux City Explorers. The South Division consists of Wichita Wingnuts, Grand Prairie AirHogs, Laredo Lemurs and Cleburne Railroaders. Three division champions from the full-season schedule along with a wild card winner will reach postseason play at seasons end.
