Canaries Announce 2019 Schedule
SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries released their 2019 American Association Regular Season schedule Wednesday morning. The schedule will once again feature 100 games, 50 home and 50 away. The Birds will kick off their season in Texas, facing off against the Cleburne Railroaders on Thursday, May 16th.
The Birds home opener will take place on Friday, May 31st against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at 7:05 PM. It will also mark the first of eight Friday Night Fireworks shows, presented by Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital.
The Birds will play 100 games in 110 days. They will host 11 opponents over the course of their 50-game home schedule, including newcomers, the Milwaukee Milkmen in late June. Game times and a promotional schedule will be announced at a later date.
The American Association will feature 12 teams in 2019, after the addition of the Milwaukee Milkmen earlier this fall. One big change from years past, is the Canaries will now compete in the Southern Division, along with the Texas Airhogs, Cleburne Railroaders, Kansas City T-Bones, Lincoln Saltdogs, and the Sioux City Explorers. The Northern division will be comprised of The Gary Southshore Railcats, Chicago Dogs, St. Paul Saints, Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks, Winnipeg Goldeyes, and the Milwaukee Milkmen. The top two teams from each division will meet in a best-of-five semifinal, with the winner’s meetings in a best-of-five championship series.
