Canaries Announce Spring Training Schedule
SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries have announced their 2017 spring training schedule ahead of tonight’s first official team practice at the Birdcage.
The squad will take the field at 7:00 PM, with batting practice and a light workout scheduled. Saturday night’s session will be closed to the general public, but fans and local media are invited to attend Sunday’s practice beginning at noon, CT. Concession stands will not be open, but admission to this event is FREE.
“We’re really excited to get back out there,” said first-year field manager Mike Meyer. “We’ve brought in a lot of talent to Sioux Falls. We know what the numbers look like on paper, now it’s time to see what these guys can do on the field.”
The Birds will play their first spring training game on Monday, May 8th against the Sioux City Explorers. The contest will be held at Riverside Park in Yankton, SD, with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 PM. The two teams will face each other again on Friday, May 12th with an exhibition game scheduled to be played in Huron, SD starting at 6:00 PM. More information regarding these events will be posted in the coming days.
The Canaries wrap up their exhibition schedule with a pair of games scheduled against the Gary-Southshore Railcats on Sunday, May 14th and Monday, May 15th.
The Sioux Falls Canaries enter their 25th season on May 18th against the Sioux City Explorers at Lewis & Clark Park. The home portion of the 2017 schedule opens up on Saturday, May 20th at the Birdcage.
