SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries have announced a pair of signings Thursday morning, bringing back C Mike Falsetti and LHP Josh Ferrell.
Falsetti, 25, returns for his second season in a Canaries uniform after joining the team July 13th in St. Paul. The Elmwood Park, Illinois native appeared in 38 games for the Birds, scoring 14 runs and collecting 18 base on balls. Known as a defensive wiz, Falsetti threw out 29% of would-be base stealers, and only allowed an impressive 3 passed balls.
“We are really excited to have Mike back for the 2017 season”, stated Canaries skipper Mike Meyer. “He is a high-level caliber defensive catcher, who really knows how to handle a pitching staff.”
Ferrell, 26, joins the Birds for his 3rd season, and looks to pick up where he left off after a breakout campaign in ’16. The Temecula, California native finished the year with a 4.15 ERA, while appearing in 43 games, which was good for 3rd all-time in Canaries history for a single season. Ferrell threw a total of 60 innings, collecting 66 strikeouts, and allowed only 23 walks.
“Josh is one of the many young stars returning from last season”, says manager Mike Meyer. “He is extremely valuable to our pitching staff because of his pitch ability. He commands both sides of the plate and has the ability to throw any pitch, in any count. He is especially tough on left-handed batters because he hides the ball so well. I look forward to using him in multiple facets out of the bullpen.”
The Canaries begin their home schedule on Saturday, May 20th against the Sioux City Explorers. For more information, call the Canaries Front Office at (605)336-6060 or visit www.sfcanaries.com.
