Canaries Bring Back Local Talent for 2015
SIOUX FALLS, SD– The Sioux Falls Canaries are pleased to announce that they have re-signed right-handed pitcher Kye Winter to the pitching staff for the 2015 season.
Winter had an up and down season for the Canaries in 2014, but finished his first year in the American Association on a high note, earning his first professional win as a starting pitcher with a 5-4 victory over Lincoln in his final outing of the season.
The Canaries used the Willow Lake, SD native primarily as a long-reliever last season, but the righty did make three starts in 20 appearances, finishing the season with a 2-3 record and 6.90 ERA while striking out 19 batters in 44 1/3 innings.
Winter showed some promise in his final two appearances of the season, recording a 1-1 record and 4.90 ERA in back-to-back starts August 22nd and 28th. His best start of the season came August 22nd on the road against the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Winter held the eventual North Division Champions to just two runs on four hits over 5 innings while striking out a season high three batters in the 2-0 loss.
Winter joined the Canaries pitching staff in mid-June after completing his senior year at Augustana College where he earned All-NSIC First-Team honors as both a pitcher and an outfielder. He struck out 61 batters in 64.0 innings last spring while posting an 8-1 record and holding opponents to a .230 average.
The Canaries have narrowed down their managerial candidates and are currently in the final stages of the interview process. A decision is expected to be announced in the near future.
The Birds’ begin their 23rd season on May 21st-23rd in Sioux City, IA before opening their 2015 home schedule on Sunday May 24th against the Explorers. For more information about corporate partnerships or season tickets in 2015, call the Canaries at (605) 336-6060.
