Winnipeg, Manitoba – The Winnipeg Goldeyes finished off a series sweep of the Sioux Falls Canaries, shutting out the Birds, 6-0, at Shaw Park.

For the third straight day, the Winnipeg Goldeyes took an early lead against the Canaries in the bottom of the first inning.

Bryce Morrow gave up back-to-back walks to Andrew Sohn and David Rohm, before a one-out double by Reggie Abercrombie brought them into score to give the Goldeyes a 2-0 lead. In total, Winnipeg outscored the Canaries, 12-0, in the first inning of the three-game series.

Morrow settled down in the second and third innings, retiring the eight of the next nine batter’s after Abercrombie’s double, but the Goldeyes extended their lead in the fourth and fifth on David Bergin’ solo home run and another RBI by Abercrombie.

At the plate, Winnipeg’s LHP Kevin McGovern stifled the Canaries, retiring 14 straight after allowing two base runners to reach in the top of the first.

In the top of the sixth, Jabari Henry and B.J. Guinn reached on a walk and single, respectively, but McGovern stranded them both with a lineout and a strikeout.

Morrow finished the day allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking three over 5.2 innings pitched. Andrew Woeck relieved Morrow in the sixth and worked out of a jam in the sixth but the Goldeyes got to Woeck in the seventh, extending their lead to 6-0.

McGovern pitched a complete-game shutout for the Goldeyes, striking out nine batters, walking two and allowing just six Canary batters to reach base.

Morrow takes the loss for the Canaries, falling to 1-3, while McGovern picks up his sixth win of the season. With the loss, Sioux Falls drops to 19-23 on the year, while Winnipeg moves to 22-20.
