Canaries Continue to Add Pitching Depth

Sioux Falls, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries are pleased to announce the signing of RHP’s Brett Gerritse and Cameron McVey for the 2015 season. 

The 24-year-old Gerritse played at three different levels of the minor leagues last season, finishing the year with a 6-8 record and 3.92 ERA.  He made 25 appearances, including 12 starts for the Yankees advanced-A affiliate Tampa in the Florida State League, going 5-7 with a 4.01 ERA in 92 innings.  

The Cypress, CA native joins the Canaries after spending the last six seasons in the New York Yankees farm system. The right-hander holds a career 3.59 ERA and has recorded 316 strikeouts while allowing just 17 home runs in 116 minor league appearances. 

The 26-year-old McVey also enters his first season with the Birds’ after making 56 appearances over three seasons in the San Francisco Giants organization, posting a 5-5 record and 4.39 ERA. 

He made 44 relief appearances over the last two seasons for the Class-A Short Season affiliate Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in the Northwest League where he went 4-4 with a 4.24 ERA while racking up 80 strikeouts. 

McVey’s best season came in 2013, when he recorded 48 strikeouts and a 3.19 ERA in 22 relief appearances for Salem-Keizer.  The right-hander faced 172 batters that season, allowing just 34 hits and 15 earned runs. 

“Brett and Cameron both come highly recommended,” said first year manager Chris Paterson, “The addition of these two talented arms will definitely help improve our pitching staff in 2015.”
