Canaries Earn First Series Win After 10-6 Final On Saturday Night

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries (3-0) picked up their first series win of the 2016 season on Saturday night after defeating the Sioux City Explorers (0-3) by the final score of 10-6 at Sioux Falls Stadium.
Canaries first baseman David Bergin paced the offensive attack for a second straight night, going 4-for-5 at the plate with four RBI and a run scored. Bergin gave the Birds’ an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a bases clearing single, and later scored on an Ethan Chapman RBI double. The Tampa, FL native added another base hit in the third inning, and two more RBI singles in the seventh and eighth innings.
Over the first three games of the season, Bergin is batting .500 and leads the American Association with two home runs, and eight RBI.
Starting pitcher Madison Boer (0-0, 7.20 ERA) made his first start in Sioux Falls on Saturday night, but did not factor in the decision. The former Minnesota Twins 2nd round draft pick allowed four runs on eight hits, walking three batters over five innings.
Relief pitcher Kris Regas (1-0, 0.00 ERA) picked up his first win of the season after tossing one scoreless inning in the seventh.
The Canaries go for the series sweep on Sunday afternoon with LHP Joe Bircher (0-0, 0.00 ERA) making his first start of the season against Explorer’s RHP Eric Wordekemper (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
