Canaries finalize a pair of contracts for the 2017 Season
SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries are pleased to announce that the organization has finalized the contracts of first baseman Chris Jacobs and catcher Aaron Gretz for the 2017 season.
Jacobs was acquired in November as the final piece of a trade with the Sussex County Miners of the CanAm League. The well-rounded slugger will be a welcomed addition to the Canaries lineup. Jacobs put together an impressive 2016 season, where he hit .291/.369/.569 with 21 home runs and 70 runs batted in.
“I’m very excited to have the addition of Chris to our 2017 roster,” says Canaries skipper Mike Meyer. “He brings instant credibility to our lineup as a prolific run producer. He has an unmatched work ethic and will be a great leader and mentor inside the clubhouse.”
Gretz was acquired in September as part of the trade that sent 1B David Bergin over to the St. Paul Saints. The young backstop had a fantastic 2016 season, where he hit .277/.332/.366 with 11 extra base hits and 25 runs batted in.
“Aaron is an up and coming catcher who had an impressive 16’ season,” stated Meyer. “He handled an experienced Saints pitching staff very well, and has all the tools to be one of the great catchers in our league. He’s a solid defender with the ability to be a very productive hitter.”
The Canaries begin their 25th season on May 18th in Sioux City against the Explorers. For more information about season tickets and corporate opportunities, call the Canaries front office at (605)336-6060 or visit www.sfcanaries.com.
