Sioux Falls, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries are pleased to announce that the organization has finalized the contracts of pitchers Jeremy Strawn and Joshua Ferrell for the 2015 season.

Strawn was one of the main pieces to the nine player deal that sent power hitting first baseman AJ Kirby-Jones and two pitchers to the Laredo Lemurs in late December.  The 2014 American Association Rookie of the Year will provide a huge boost to a Sioux Falls pitching staff that finished with an American Association worst 5.49 team ERA in 2014.  Strawn made 10 starts in 14 appearances last season for Laredo, going a perfect 9-0 with a 2.45 ERA while racking up 51 strikeouts in 73.1 innings. His three complete games were tied for the second most in the American Association last season.

“Jeremy is a huge sign and pickup for us as the reigning American Association rookie of the year” said first year Manager, Chris Paterson. “We feel confident leaning on him to help lead our rotation deep into the year.”

Ferrell joins the 2015 pitching staff after finishing up a terrific season in the Texas Winter League, posting a 4-0 record to go along with his 0.81 ERA.  The 5’11’’ southpaw also racked up 34 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched for the Pericos de Puebla, eventually be named Texas Winter League pitcher of the year.  Ferrell opened up plenty of eyes at the TWL, including Paterson, who managed Pericos de Puebla this winter.

“Josh will be a great asset to our bullpen” said Paterson, “He’s a tough lefty who will serve a versatile role in our pen and really knows how to pitch for a rookie.  I’m very excited about our young, but proven pitching staff thus far.”

The Canaries begin their 23rd season on May 21st-23rd in Sioux City, IA before opening their 2015 home schedule on Sunday, May 24th against the Explorers.  Season tickets are on sale now and start as low as $6 per game.  Contact the Canaries office at (605) 336-6060 for more information.
