Canaries Finalize Opening Day Roster

SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries announced on Wednesday morning that they have finalized their 2016 roster. 

The Birds’ will carry 22 players (American Association maximum is 23 for 2016) when the season officially begins on Thursday night against the Sioux City Explorers at Mercy Field at Lewis & Clark Park. 

Field manager Chris Paterson also announced on Wednesday morning that LHP Misael Siverio will get the start on Opening Day in Sioux City. 

“Misael is a workhorse left-hander who brings a lot of experience to our staff,” said Paterson.  “We think he has a chance to be the ace of our pitching staff this season.” 

Siverio, 26, is a left-handed starting pitcher who holds a 47-39 career record and 3.30 ERA in eight professional seasons.  Before defecting from Cuba, Siverio played six seasons for Villa Clara in the Cuban National Series from 2007-12, posting a 3.24 ERA. 

The Southpaw made 26 starts for the double-A Jackson Generals (Seattle Mariners) in 2015, posting a 5-12 record and 4.35 ERA.  Siverio set a new career-high in strikeouts (110) in 122 innings of work.

The Sioux Falls Canaries enter their 24th season on May 19th against the Sioux City Explorers at Mercy Field and Lewis & Clark Park. Fans can listen to all of the action on AM-1230 FM-98.1, Sioux Falls Sports Radio KWSN.
