Canaries Hand Saints Second Loss Of Season In 6-2 Final
ST. PAUL, MINN- The Sioux Falls Canaries (8-9) put together one of their best offensive days of the season, riding a strong pitching performance from RHP Jeremy Strawn (2-1, 3.09 ERA) to a 6-2 win over the St. Paul Saints (14-2) on Sunday night at CHS Field in downtown St. Paul.
The Birds watched an early 1-0 lead slip away after Saints’ designated hitter, Ian Gac smashed a two-out double into the right field gap, and later scored on a Mike Kvasnicka RBI single off the right field wall.
The game would stay tied at 1-1 until the top of the sixth inning, when Canaries second baseman, Michael Wing crushed a leadoff homerun (2) over the left field wall. The Birds’ added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning, and two more in the eighth to cap off their big offensive day.
Wing finished the day 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and a homerun to go along with his two RBI and two runs scored.
The Birds’ totaled six runs on 14 hits, including a 3-for-3 day at the plate from both RJ Perucki and David Bergin. Bergin continues to pace the Canaries offense in 2015, posting a .321 batting average to go along with a team best 11 RBI and 12 runs scored.
