Canaries' Hart Named League Rookie Of The Year

SIOUX FALLS, SD -- Sioux Falls Canaries fans have seen Mike Hart's highlight-reel plays at the Birdcage and on SportsCenter. Now the league is officially taking notice. Hart was named the 2019 American Association Rookie of the Year, the league announced Wednesday.
Hart was elected by a vote of league managers, executives and media.
Hart is coming off an outstanding 2019, hitting .297/.386/.491 with 11 home runs and 41 RBIs. Hart knocked 17 doubles and scored 42 runs despite only playing 78 games due to a hamstring injury in July. Hart made his presence known in the field as well, suiting up at all three outfield spots as well as catcher.
In his second season with the Canaries, Hart is still classified as a rookie under American Association roster rules.
Hart is the first Canary to be named Rookie of the Year in the American Association. He's the first Canary to receive a Rookie of the Year honor since Jake Burnham was named Northern League Central Division Rookie of the Year in 2002.
Hart signed with the Canaries before last season, winning a roster spot out of spring training. Hart had an solid 2018 with the Canaries, leading the team with a .309 batting average.
Hart played college ball at the University of Massachusetts, where posted a career .293/.390/.418 slash line across three seasons.
