Canaries Kick Off Their Offseason With The Signing Of Two Arms.
SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries announced on Friday morning that they have come to terms with two right- handed pitchers, Christian Montgomery and Trevor Jaunich.
Christian Montgomery, 24, last pitched in 2016 with the Single-A affiliate of the New York Mets, where he turned in the best season of his career, compiling a 3.34 ERA, and 45 strike outs over 29.2 innings pitched.
The Miami Beach, FL native was originally drafted in 2011 in the 11th round. Over his career, the hard throwing right hander has had a flair for the punch out, whiffing 145 batters over 102 innings. The Birds will look for Montgomery to compete for a late inning relief role in 2018.
“I’m extremely excited to add Christian to our bullpen. He is a prototypical power arm, throwing in the mid 90’s.” says Manager Mike Meyer. “He features a cut fastball that helped him post a 12.8 K/9 in his career”
Trevor Jaunich, 25, spent his 2017 season with the Birmingham- Bloomfield Beavers of the United Shore League, where he finished with a 3.18 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 6 saves, and 23 strike outs in 17 innings.
The native of Delano, MN played his college ball at North Dakota State University. Jaunich was a work horse for the Bison, appearing in 53 games, totaling 118 innings, and allowing only 3 home runs in his college career.
“Trevor is another arm with upside. He has a good fastball in the low 90’s with command of all three pitches.” Stated Mike Meyer. “We hope that he will play a big role in our bullpen as a late inning guy.”
The Canaries will enter their 26th season in 2018. For more information about season tickets and corporate opportunities, call the Canaries front office at (605)336-6060 or visit www.sfcanaries.com.
