SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries battled back from a four-run deficit to force extra innings on Saturday night, but the Kansas City T-Bones out lasted the Birds, winning by the final score of 8-7 at Sioux Falls Stadium.

The Canaries held a 3-1 lead going into the top of the 5th inning before the T-Bones exploded for five runs. Starting pitcher Miles Nordgren gave up a pair of singles before loading the bases with a one-out walk, setting up a Zach Walters grand-slam. Chase McDonald followed that up with a solo home run to give K.C. a 7-3 lead.

Burt Reynold lead off the bottom of the 5th inning with his second home run of the night to help get the Birds back into the ball-game.

The Canaries struck again in the bottom of the 8th inning when Blake Schmit roped a one-out single and later scored on a Aaron Gretz RBI triple to make it 7-5. The Birds trailed by two runs going into the bottom of the 9th inning, but tied the game up after working their way on base with five walks, including a pair of bases-loaded walks from Schmit and Gretz to force extra innings.

The game would stay tied at 7-7 until the top of the 11th inning, when The T-Bones brought home the eventual game winning run on a bases-loaded infield single from Marcus Lemon.

Relief pitcher Josh Ferrell (1-2) suffered the loss after allowing one run on three hits over one inning of work. Kansas City’s relief pitcher, Rich Mascheri (2-0) earned the victory after holding the Canaries offense scoreless on one hit over the final 2 1/3 innings in relief.

Reynolds broke through with his best offensive game of the season for the Birds. He finished the night going 3-for-5 with two home runs, two RBI and three runs scored. Gretz also had his best night of the season, finishing 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.
