Canaries name Mike Meyer as Manager
SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries are pleased to announce the hiring of Mike Meyer as the organization’s next On-Field Manager.
Meyer is no stranger to Sioux Falls, serving as the clubs pitching coach from 2007-2014, helping the Birds hoist the American Association League Championship trophy in 2008, and become the North Division Champions in 2010. Most recently, Meyer served as hitting coach in 2015 and 2016 for the South Division powerhouse Laredo Lemurs. He assisted them to a combined record of 115-85, as well as guiding them to the American Association Championship in 2015.
Prior to his professional coaching career, Meyer played collegiately at the University of Arizona where he was selected in the 23rd round of the 2000 draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. Meyer reached as high as A+ before joining the Independent ranks, playing with the St. Paul Saints from 2004-2006 and hurling a total of 374.2 innings in their uniform. He is currently 3rd on their All-Time win’s list, with 26 to his name.

The well-rounded Vail, AZ native is taking over a club that finished 23-22 in the final 45 games. With the help of key returning players, and additional acquisition, Meyer will be looking to shake up the North Division in 2017 and beyond. Meyer’s first season guiding the Birds’ will begin on May 18th in Sioux City, IA against the I-29 rival Explorers.
