SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries (27-39) returned to Texas for the second time in six days on Sunday night to open up a three-game series against the Laredo Lemurs (35-31).  The Birds’ gave up a late two-run lead, but battled their way back to an 8-5 extra-inning win on Sunday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.

Starting pitcher Miguel Pena (6-5, 2.84 ERA) held the Lemurs to just three runs on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings, but did not factor in the decision. Canaries closer Chase Johnson (4-0, 3.34 ERA) gave up the tying run in the bottom of the ninth inning after walking leadoff batter Juedy Valdez, who later scored the tying run.  It was the third blown save of the season for Johnson, who responded with a quick 1-2-3 inning in the 10th.

The Canaries added a pair of insurance runs in the inning.

Johnson ended up with the win for the Birds’ after allowing one run on one hit in two innings of work.

Laredo’s Ryan Beckman (3-1, 1.88 ERA) suffered the loss after giving up three runs in the top of the 11th inning.

Bergin finished the game 2-for-4 with a pair of walks, an RBI, and a run scored.  Jason Repko also had a good night at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a homerun (7) and two runs scored.
