Canaries Pickup Fourth Come-Back Win of the Season

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Sioux Falls Canaries (5-5) secured their fourth come-back win of the season, and first against divisional foe, as they beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (2-7), by a final score of 6-3 in front of 1,953 fans at Sioux Falls Stadium.

Canaries starting pitcher Joe Bircher (1-0, 1.39 ERA) threw seven strong innings for the Birds’, allowing two runs on three hits to go along with four strikeouts. The southpaw left the game with the win intact, but later recorded the no decision after the RedHawks would rally in the top of the eighth tying the game 3-3.

The RedHawks scored a pair of runs in the first inning, capitalizing on back-to-back Canaries errors. The Birds’ would add a third miscue in the seventh, giving them 17 errors on the season, second most in the American Association. The Birds’ did manage to turn their tenth double play of the year behind relief pitcher Chase Johnson. The Birds’ are now fourth in the league in double plays.

Center fielder Harrison Kain helped Sioux Falls get back in the game with a solo home-run over the right field wall in the third. The Birds’ punched two more runs in the bottom of the sixth as Bryan Humphries scorched a double to left field. Sioux Falls picked up three more runs in the bottom of the eighth as David Bergin hit an RBI single into center, followed by a Richard Stock double, with one out, that scored two runs for the Birds’.

Stock paced the Canaries offense going 2-for-4 at the plate, with two doubles. Humphries also had a strong night at plate going 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Stock now leads the team with a .355 batting average, six doubles, and is tied for the team lead with seven RBI.
