Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries fell to the Texas AirHogs, 10-4, Friday night at Sioux Falls Stadium in front of a crowd of 3,013.

The Texas AirHogs roughed up Troy Marks, knocking the Canaries’ starter out of the game after just three innings of work.

Denis Phipps’ three-run homer gave the AirHogs a 3-0 lead and though the Birds cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the first, Texas never trailed the rest of the way.

After Jabari Henry’s two-run home run in the bottom of the first cut Texas’ lead to 3-2, the AirHogs got right back at it in the top of the second against Marks, scoring two runs on two doubles and a single.

And the AirHogs weren’t done there, Phipps added to the AirHogs lead with another homer, this one a solo shot, in the top of the third, extending the lead to 5-2.

Marks finished the day allowing six runs on seven hits over just three innings of work, striking out two and walking one.

Bo Hellquist relieved Marks in the fourth, but the AirHogs scoring continued. Texas scored one in the fourth, two in the seventh and one more in the eighth to extend their lead to 10-2.

In total, the AirHogs totaled 10 runs on 18 hits against the Canaries Friday night, a season-high in hits allowed for Sioux Falls this season.

At the plate, T.J. Bozeman shut the Canaries down after the first inning, allowing no hits and just four base runners to reach after the first, striking out nine and walking just four over 7.0 innings pitched.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Birds scratched out two more runs on three hits against Leuris Gomez, but Scott Firth shut the Canaries down in the ninth, working around a walk and a double, to give the AirHogs the victory.

Marks takes the loss for the Birds, who fall to 32-38 on the season. Bozeman picks up the win for the AirHogs, who move to 27-43 on the season.
