SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Madison Boer (Bo-er) on Thursday morning.

Boer, 26, was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 2nd round of the 2011 MLB draft and spent five minor league seasons with the organization. He made 24 minor league appearances in 2015, posting a 2-2 record and 1.62 ERA in 11 outings for Class A Fort Myers before getting called up to Double-A Chattanooga.

The Eden Prairie, MN native was released by the Twins organization in early July, finishing the season with a 5-4 record and 3.48 ERA before signing an independent contract with the Atlantic League’s Lancaster Barnstormers.  Boer made nine starts for the Barnstormers, going 4-3 with a 4.28 ERA, racking up 28 strikeouts in 48.1 innings of work.

“We think Madison will help lead our pitching rotation in 2016,” said second year field manager Chris Paterson. “He proved he has the ability to start at this level. We’re excited to see what he brings to our staff this summer.”

Boer and The Canaries begin their 24th season on May 19th against the Sioux City Explorers at Lewis & Clark Park.  The Birds kick off the 2016 home portion of their schedule on Friday, May 20th with a special presentation from All-Star Fireworks after the game.
