Canaries Sign Trey Vavra, Release B.J. Guinn

Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries signed infielder Trey Vavra and released infielder B.J. Guinn.

In 106 at-bats with the Ft. Myers Miracle, the Twins High-A affiliate, this season Vavra hit .132/.262/.179 with two doubles and a home run.

Over his five years in the Twins’ farm system, Vavra hit .258/.341/.373 with 49 doubles, two triples, 16 home runs and 110 RBI. Vavra played for the Twins’ Rookie, Single-A and High-A affiliates over his five years in the minor leagues before joining the Independent ranks.

Vavra, a graduate of Florida Southern College, was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 33rd of the 2014 MLB Draft. He is the son of current Twins’ bench coach Joe Vavra, and the brother of former St. Paul Saints’ infielder Tanner Vavra.

In 38 games for the Canaries, Guinn hit .261/.262/.524 with four doubles, a home run and 10 RBIs.

The Canaries return to The Birdcage on Friday, opening a three-game set against the Wichita Wingnuts. LHP Joe Bircher (3-4, 4.68 ERA) will take the hill for the Canaries, and you won’t want to miss any of the Birds’ weekend action against the Wingnuts.

Saturday, the Canaries will honor our military members as part of Military Appreciation Night, presented by the South Dakota Army National Guard. Gates will open at 5:00 PM on with a first pitch scheduled for 6:30 PM. There will be a pre-game ceremony with special recognition of Military members. Be on the lookout for a big American Flag before the game and a special post-game Fireworks display after the final out!
