SIOUX FALLS  –  The Sioux Falls Canaries released their 2014 schedule on Friday, and they will open their 22nd season at home on Thursday, May 15, 2014, against the Sioux City Explorers.

“We’re excited to build off the momentum of the great crowds from this past season,” said Canaries CEO/President Tom Garrity, whose club saw a team record of 161,131 fans come to the Birdcage in 2013, breaking a previous high set in 2008. “We are working hard to plan for an outstanding fan experience. In the coming months, we will unveil some fantastic new promotions, theme nights and improvements.”

All home games Monday through Saturday will begin at 7:05 p.m., with the exception of 12:05 p.m. starts on June 18 and August 13. Sundays will have a new start time at 4:05 p.m.

“We believe the 4:05 p.m. start on Sunday will be especially convenient for families,” Garrity said. “They can spend the late afternoon at the Birdcage and still be home in the early evening.”

The 2014 home schedule hosts 11 different opponents and 29 contests in the popular Thursday through Sunday dates. The Birds will have 17 home games against division opponents.

The American Association features 12 teams in 2014 after the the El Paso Diablos ceased operation. Three divisions – North, Central and South – will have four teams each. The Canaries will once again play in the North Division with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, St. Paul Saints and Winnipeg Goldeyes. The Central Division is comprised of the Gary SouthShore RailCats, Kansas City T-Bones, Lincoln Saltdogs and Sioux City Explorers.  The Wichita Wingnuts shift to the South Division, joining the Amarillo Sox, Grand Prairie AirHogs and Laredo Lemurs. Three division champions from the full-season schedule along with a wild card winner will reach postseason play.
