Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries are excited to announce that RHP Dylan Thompson has been named to the 2017 American Association All-Star Team.

The 25-year-old Thompson is 1-1 with a 0.40 ERA in 20 relief appearances this season with the Canaries.  The right-hander has allowed just one earned run over 22 1/3 innings of work, striking out 17 batters while walking six.

“I’m incredibly proud of Dylan and what he has accomplished on the mound for us this season,” said Canaries Field Manager Mike Meyer. “He has a terrific work ethic and wants nothing more than to be great. He’s not only a huge piece in our bullpen, but he’s also a great teammate. I know he will be a great representative for the organization at this year’s All-Star game.”

This is Thompson’s second season with the Sioux Falls Canaries. The Snow Camp, NC native went 5-2 with a 3.30 ERA with the Birds during the 2016 season.  He made eight starts over 22 total appearances, striking out 49 batters in 68 innings of work.

This will be Thompson’s first appearance in the American Association/Can-Am League All-Star Game. The team’s starting position players and DH were voted upon by the league’s field managers, with All-Star Manager Rick Forney (Winnipeg Goldeyes) selecting the pitchers and reserves. The July 25th game in Ottawa will match the American Association All-Stars and Can-Am All-Stars.

The Birds wrap up their 10-game road trip on Wednesday against the Kansas City T-Bones. RHP Miles Nordgren (2-3, 6.94 ERA) will take the hill for the Canaries against RHP Chris Perry (1-2, 4.90 ERA). First pitch is at 7:05 PM. Catch all the Canaries action on the road on 98.1-FM, 1230-AM KWSN Sioux Falls Sports Radio.

The Canaries return to The Birdcage on July 7-9 when they take on the South Division-leading Wichita Wingnuts. And you won’t want to miss Friday night’s opener against the Wingnuts.
