Ford Hopes To Bounce Back In 2015

SIOUX FALLS, SD– The Sioux Falls Canaries are pleased to announce the re-signing of utility player, Shelby Ford for the 2015 season. 

Ford hit .336 for Sioux Falls last season, including seven doubles, six homeruns, and 19 RBI in 30 games.  The Fort Worth, TX native led the team in virtually every offensive category last season prior to a season ending head injury in Sioux City on June 22nd and is hoping to bounce back in 2015. 

“I feel great now,” said Ford, “I’m excited to get back out there and play and be a leader on the team.” 

Ford spent six seasons in the Pittsburgh Pirates farm system, logging 94 games with Triple-A Indianapolis before joining the independent ranks in 2012.  In 2013 he hit .315 with 34 RBI and 14 extra-base hits in 37 games with the Fort Worth Cats of the Independent United League. 

The Fort Worth, Texas native was selected by the Pirates in the third round of the 2006 first-year draft.  He took home Carolina League Post-Season All-Star (Class A) honors in 2007 and an Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star selection (Double-A) in 2008.  In 2009, Ford was named the no. 8 prospect in the Pirates organization according to Baseball America. 

“We’re very happy to have Shelby with us,” said Field Manager Chris Paterson, “I’ve had the privilege of seeing him play and see what his bat can do.  His versatility and leadership will really help us accomplish what we are trying to do on the field in Sioux Falls.” 

In nine professional seasons, Ford has a career .266 batting average, 39 homeruns, 276 RBI and 205 extra-base hits.
