Former Colorado Rockies Prospects Bolster Birds' Roster in 2015
Sioux Falls, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries are pleased to announce the signing of outfielder Brian Humphries and first baseman David Bergin for the 2015 season.
The 25-year-old Humphries enters his first year with the Birds’ after playing the last four seasons in the Colorado Rockies organization. He was an All-Star in 2014 for AA-Tulsa in the Texas League, where he collected 111 hits and 45 RBI in 112 games played.
The El Cajon, CA native enjoyed a solid season with the A+ Modesto Nuts in 2013, posting career highs in batting average (.300), hits (136), stolen bases (14), and home runs (8).
Humphries holds a .285 career batting average and a .324 on base percentage, to go along with his 441 career hits and 44 stolen bases.
The 25-year-old Bergin posted a .239 batting average last season while making stops at three different levels of the Rockies minor league system. The power hitting first baseman collected 12 home runs, nine of which came while playing in 34 games with A+ Modesto.
Bergin spent most of the 2013 season playing Independent baseball for the United League’s Fort Worth Cats, where he hit .310 with 19 home runs, 9 doubles, and 66 RBI in 73 games played.
The Tampa, FL native enters his fifth season of professional baseball in 2015 holding a .290 career batting average to go along with his 37 home runs, 34 doubles, and 136 RBI.
“Humphries and Bergin will be great attributes in the middle of our order this season,” said first year manager Chris Paterson, “We expect them to be the heart of our lineup and look forward to big things from these guys in 2015.”
The Canaries report to the Birdcage for Spring Training on May 7th and begin their 23rd season on May 21st-23rd in Sioux City, IA. The Birds open their 2015 home schedule on Sunday, May 24th against the Explorers at 4:05 PM.
