Grayson Brings Speed and Power Back to Birds' Lineup in 2016

SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries announced on Friday morning that outfielder Chris Grayson will return for his second season with the organization.
In 68 games last year, Grayson hit .290 with 21 doubles, four triples, three home runs, and 11 stolen bases. Although he joined the team one month into the 2015 season, Grayson still finished tied for the team lead in triples (4), second on the team in stolen bases (11), and third on the team in doubles (21).
“Grayson was one of the key pieces to our puzzle this off season,” said Canaries field manager Chris Paterson. “He is a great all-around player, and was a huge presence in the clubhouse. We needed him back in our lineup.”
The Monroe, LA native hit his stride over the final month of the season, posting a .319 batting average while racking up 13 doubles and 13 RBI’s in 28 games. Grayson hit safely in 12 of his final 15 games, going 20-for-63 (.317) at the plate, including a 5-for-5 effort in a 6-0 win over the St. Paul Saints on August 22nd.
“The numbers speak for themselves,” added Paterson. “He had a strong second half of the season for us. We want to see that carry over into this season. Hopefully he can help us get off to a big start in 2016.”
Grayson was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 13th round of the 2011 MLB Draft, spending four years in the Rangers minor league system. He holds a .252 career batting average with 142 extra base hits, 182 RBI’s and 93 stolen bases. Grayson reached the double-A level in 2014, hitting .241 in 44 games for the Frisco RoughRiders.
Grayson and the Sioux Falls Canaries enter their 24th season on May 19th against the Sioux City Explorers at Lewis & Clark Park. The Canaries kick off the 2016 home portion of their schedule on Friday, May 20th with a special presentation from All-Star Fireworks after the game.
