Henry's Two-Homer Night Helps Even Series Against St. Paul
Sioux Falls, SD – Jabari Henry mashed two home runs as the Canaries evened up their series against the St. Paul Saints in front of a crowd of 2,251 with an 8-2 win at Sioux Falls Stadium.
It only took one pitch for the Canaries to take the lead against the Saints, and they never looked back from there. Jabari Henry led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run, and the Canaries took a 1-0 lead.
Joe Bircher worked around three hits over the first five innings to twirl a terrific start, before the Birds would blow things open in the fifth and sixth.
Ty Morrison walked to lead off the bottom of the fifth against Ryan Zimmerman, and B.J. Guinn's one-out double put runners on second and third. Zimmerman would get Dan Motl to line out, but a walk yielded to Brett Marr loaded the bases for Henry.
Once again Henry homered, the first grand slam of the year for Sioux Falls, a moonshot hit over the left field wall, and the Canaries' extended their lead to 5-0. Henry went 2-for-4 on the evening with two home runs and five RBIs.
The Birds once again got to Zimmerman in the sixth, knocking him out after just 5.2 innings pitched, his worst start of the year. Doubles by Aaron Gretz and Ty Morrison extended the Canaries lead to 6-0, before the Birds once again loaded the bases, this time for Brett Marr.
Marr lined a single up the middle, knocking in two runs and picking up his first professional RBI. Marr was one of eight Canaries that had a hit, and every Canary reached base.
St. Paul would tack on two in the ninth, but the Canaries took home an 8-2 victory, gaining ground on the North Division leader.
Bircher allowed just four hits over his six-innings pitched, walking two and striking out five. He picked up his third win of the season, while Zimmerman took a loss for the first time this year.
Zimmerman allowed eight runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings pitched, walked three and struck out five. With the win, the Canaries move to 14-17 on the year, while the Saints drop to 20-11.
