Sioux Falls, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries (26-39) watched a pair of early leads slip away in the first two games of the series against the Kansas City T-Bones (34-26) on Wednesday and Thursday night, but left little doubt in the finale on Friday.  Brian Humphries hit a pair of solo home runs, and RHP Shawn Blackwell allowed one run over seven innings to secure the 6-3 win in front of 3,199 fans at Sioux Falls Stadium.

Humphries put together another impressive performance at the plate for Sioux Falls, going 3-for-3 with a walk, and two solo home runs.  His first shot of the night was a lead-off no doubter over the right field wall.  That homer sparked a four-run, five hit inning for the Birds’, with Richard Stock, and Angel Chavez adding RBI doubles to the big inning.

Humphries came back to the plate with one out in the bottom of the third, blast a ball deep over the right-centerfield wall.  The Canaries outfielder now leads the team with 11 homeruns, and is now second in the American Association with 90 hits on the year.

Blackwell put together arguably his best performance of the season on Friday night, allowing one run on seven hits, while matching his season high with seven strikeouts.  The Right-hander recorded six of his strikeouts, and allowed just one T-bones base runner to reach third-base over his first five innings.  His only mistake of the night came with one out in the top of the sixth inning, when T-Bones outfielder Adam Bailey hit his first of two homeruns on the night.  Blackwell gave up three hits in the inning, but didn’t allow another run the rest of the night, retiring the T-Bones in order to wrap up his seventh, and final inning of work.

The win was Blackwell’s second of the season, and his first since his victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes on June 4th.  Canaries closer Chase Johnson earned his 10th save of the season in a scoreless ninth inning of work.

Kansas City starting pitcher Steve Sarcone (0-1, 15.00 ERA) suffered the loss in his first start with the T-Bones.

The Canaries hit the road for the next week for a week-long roadtrip back to Texas, as they get set to battle the Laredo Lemurs and Grand Prairie Airhogs.

The Birds return to Sioux Falls Stadium on Saturday, August 8th to open up a three-game series against their I-29 rivals, the Sioux City Explorers at 6:05 PM.
