Jordan Smith Joins Cleveland Indians Organization
SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries have announced this morning that the Cleveland Indians have purchased the contract of Outfielder, Jordan Smith. Smith becomes the second player purchased off the 2018 Sioux Falls roster, following right-handed pitcher Kevin Folman, who’s contract was purchased in July by the Chicago White Sox.
Smith, 28, joined the Canaries on June 5th after spending the first part of the 2018 season with the St. Paul Saints. He quickly became an impact player for the Birds, both at the plate and in the outfield. In 79 games with Sioux Falls, Smith collected 17 extra base hits, 30 runs batted in, and stole 25 bases.
Smith was drafted in the 9th round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians. In his 6 seasons with the Tribe, Jordan saw action in 713 games, reaching as high as Triple-A before being released in the spring of 2018.
Prior to being drafted, the Willmar, Minnesota native was a standout at St. Cloud State University. In 2 seasons with the Huskies, Smith hit .420 with 22 home runs and 135 runs batted in.
The Canaries home opener is scheduled for Friday, May 31st against the Winnipeg Goldeyes. For more information on Corporate Partnerships, Season Tickets, or Group Outings, visit the Canaries Official Website at www.sfcanaries.com, or give the Front Office a call at (605)336-6060.
