SIOUX CITY, IA- The Sioux City Explorers picked up their fourth straight win on Friday night, defeating the Sioux Falls Canaries by the final score of 5-2 at Mercy Field and Lewis & Clark Park.

The Birds were locked in a pitcher’s duel with Sioux City for much of the night, but the game was won in the bottom of the 8th inning, when Explorers first baseman John Nogowski sent a two-out, three-run home run over the wall in left to Give the X’s their only lead of the night.

He was replaced by Andrew Woeck with two outs in the bottom of 6th inning. Woeck got the final out of the inning on a ground ball back to the pitcher’s mound, and backed that up with a quick 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the 7th.

Nogowski hit the 8th inning blast off of relief pitcher Jeff Inman (0-1) who retired the first two batters of the inning before giving up a single to Jayce Ray and walking Nate Samson to set up the three-run shot. Nogowski finished the night going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and a run scored.

Chris Jacobs hit another home run for the Canaries on Friday night. His third blast in two games gave the Birds’ a brief lead in the top of the 6th inning when he sent a two-out, solo homer over the right-field wall to make it a 2-1 ball game. It was the seventh long-ball of the season for the Birds and their first homerun outside of Sioux Falls Stadium. Jacobs finished the night going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in the loss.
