Lind Back With Birds' in 2015
SIOUX FALLS, SD– The Sioux Falls Canaries are pleased to announce that they have re-signed local talent and infielder Sam Lind for the 2015 season.
Lind hit .242 with a .344 on-base-percentage in his first professional season with Sioux Falls. He committed just four errors in 165 tries while collecting nine doubles and five homeruns in 57 games played.
The Hartford, SD native and Roosevelt High School graduate joined the squad in mid-June last season after a try-out. He impressed the organization, and was signed to a contract on the spot. He would later be named the every-day second baseman after the team’s top hitter, Shelby Ford, went down with a season ending injury.
“We are excited to have him back”, said Canaries Manager Chris Paterson. “We think Sam will be a big part of our rebuilding process in Sioux Falls. It’s always good to have a hometown kid and it’s a plus to have one with Sam’s potential.”
Lind joined the Canaries after wrapping up a stellar season at Cumberland University, where he ended his college career by winning the 2014 NAIA World Series. Lind earned MVP honors at the World Series after hitting .542 (13-for-24) with three doubles, two homeruns and 12 RBI in six games. For the season, Lind led Cumberland with a .404 batting average, 16 HR, 91 RBI and 11 SB.
Lind and The Canaries begin their 23rd season on May 21st-23rd in Sioux City, IA before opening their 2015 home schedule on Sunday, May 24th against the Explorers. For more information about corporate opportunities or season tickets in 2015, contact the Canaries at (605) 336-6060.
