Marks and Inman join Canaries Pitching Staff
SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries announced on Saturday afternoon that the organization has come to terms with right-handed pitchers Jeff Inman and Troy Marks for the 2017 American Association season.
Inman, 29, was drafted out of Graces Memorial High School by the Kansas City Royals in the 19th round of the 2006 MLB Draft, but instead chose to attend Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif. Inman played three seasons for the Cardinal before the Pittsburgh Pirates drafted him in the 12th round of the 2009 MLB Draft.
The Bakersfield, Calif. native played six seasons in the Pirates farm system, compiling a 14-7 record with a 2.57 ERA in 120 games, including 12 starts. Inman made 14 appearances for the Pirates AAA affiliate, Indianapolis Indians, where he 0-1 with a 2.95 ERA in 14 appearances.
Following the 2015 season, Inman joined the Independent ranks, signing with the Laredo Lemurs of the American Association. With the Lemurs’ last season, Inman posted a 2-3 record with a 2.70 ERA in 45 appearances.
Marks, 27, went undrafted out of the University of Nevada-Reno, but spent part of the 2013 preseason with the Philadelphia Phillies and their Short-Season Single A affiliate, the Williamsport Crosscutters.
Marks spent the 2014 season with the Vallejo Admirals of the Pacific Association and the Washington WildThings of the Frontier League, pitching well enough to earn him a contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Marks compiled a 2-1 record and a 3.10 ERA in 26 appearances and seven starts in the Diamondbacks’ farm system in 2015 before rejoining the Independent ranks in 2016.
Marks played in the Australian Baseball League and the Mexican Pacific Winter League following his time with the Diamondbacks in 2015, before joining the Lemurs in the American Association for the 2016 season. Marks went 8-4 with a 3.83 ERA in 16 starts and 24 total appearances for the Lemurs last season.
The Sioux Falls Canaries enter their 25th season on May 18th against the Sioux City Explorers at Lewis & Clark Park. The home portion of the 2017 schedule opens on Saturday, May 20th at the Birdcage.
