Morrison Named Pointstreak Player of the Week

Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries are excited to announce that outfielder Ty Morrison has been named the American Association’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for June 23, 2017.

Morrison hit .556/.571/.741 (15-for-27) with two doubles, a home run and six RBI in 27 at-bats for the Canaries.

Morrison also extended his hitting streak to 15 games, the longest active hitting streak in the American Association and tied for the fourth-longest in the Association this season.

Morrison started out the week against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on July 18 going 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored. He continued the week with four more multi-hit games, including four three-hit games, three against the Texas AirHogs at AirHog Stadium.

Against the AirHogs, Morrison hit .600 (9-for-15) with two doubles, four runs, three RBI and three stolen bases. Morrison also hit .500 (6-for-12) against the RedHawks at Sioux Falls Stadium with three runs, three RBI and a stolen base.

On the season, Morrison is hitting .322/.397/.506 with 17 doubles, a triple, eight home runs and 37 RBI. Morrison also has stolen 18 bases in 23 attempts, drawn 24 walks and six hit-by-pitches.

Morrison is the second Canaries’ player to be named the American Association’s Pointstreak Player of the Week in 2017. OF Jabari Henry was named the American Association’s Pointstreak Player of the Week on June 19, 2017 earlier this season after hitting .469 (15-for-32) with two doubles, three home runs, and 11 RBI in an impressive week at the plate.

A 4th-round draft pick by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008 out of high school, Morrison spent seven seasons in the Rays' system before entering the Independent ranks in 2015. Morrison played the past two seasons with the Laredo Lemurs before joining the Canaries for the 2017 season.

Following the All-Star Break, the Birds will be back at The Birdcage for a four-game homestand, starting Thursday July 27 at 7:05 PM with a three-game set against the Lincoln Saltdogs.

Be sure to save the date as well for the Birds’ three-game home stand against the Salina Stockade August 18-20, as Sunday’s matchup has been moved from a 12:05 PM to a 4:05 PM start.
