Nordgren Named American Association Pitcher of the Week

Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries are excited to announce that starting pitcher Miles Nordgren has been named the American Association’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for August 13, 2017.

Nordgren made one start against the St. Paul Saints this past week on August 10, pitching a two-hit, complete-game shutout for the Birds. Nordgren struck out three, walked two and allowed just two hits over nine innings of shutout baseball at CHS Field.

Nordgren’s been terrific this season against the St. Paul Saints, especially at CHS Field. On the season against St. Paul, Nordgren is 1-2 with a 3.33 ERA, striking out 12 and walking eight over 27.0 innings of work.

And at CHS Field in St. Paul, Minnesota, Nordgren is 1-0 with a 0.60 ERA, allowing just one run over 15.0 innings while striking out nine, walking three and allowing just nine hits.

On the season, Nordgren is now 5-5 with a 4.53 ERA in 15 starts. He’s struck 40 batters and walked just 23 over 93.1 innings pitched. And since July 1, Nordgren is 3-2 with a 2.25 ERA.

The Canaries took three of four to wrap up a series win against the Saints Sunday evening, with two wins coming via complete-game shutouts, one from Nordgren and another Sunday night from Grady Wood.

Nordgren will make his next start against the Gary SouthShore RailCats on Wednesday night at the U.S. Steel Yard.

After an off-day on Monday, the Canaries head to Gary, Indiana for a three-game set against the Gary SouthShore RailCats at the U.S. Steel Yard. RHP Troy Marks (3-7, 5.20 ERA) will take the mound for Sioux Falls in game one against RailCats’ LHP Alex Gunn (7-4, 3.77 ERA). Fans can tune into all the Canaries action on Sioux Falls Sports Radio, 1230-AM, 98.1-FM KWSN.

The Birds' are back in Sioux Falls at The Birdcage starting next weekend, Aug. 18 with three-game series against the Salina Stockade, followed by four games against Fargo-Moorhead.
