Repko's Two-Run Homer Not Enough in 6-5 Loss To St. Paul
Sioux Falls, SD-- The Sioux Falls Canaries (22-30) continued their four-game series against the St. Paul Saints (40-12) on Thursday night at Sioux Falls Stadium, but for the second straight night, lost to their North division rivals, this time by the final score of 6-5.
Canaries outfielder Jason Repko put together a solid night at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI’s and a run scored. The former big-leaguer gave the Birds’ their first lead of the night at 5-4 in the bottom of the 7th inning, after sending a towering homerun over the left-field wall.
The lead was short lived though, with St. Paul scoring two runs in the top of the 8th inning on a Joey Paciorek RBI double, and a Dan Kaczrowski RBI single. It was the third lead, and final lead of the night for the Saints, who pieced together six run on 12 hits against the Canaries pitching staff.
Sioux Falls starting pitcher, Stephen Bougher held the Saints offense in check most of the night, allowing just three runs, on nine hits over his six innings of work. Bougher did not factor in the decision though, after leaving the game in a 3-3 tie.
Reliever James Jones suffered the tough luck loss for Sioux Falls, after allowing two runs on one hit in one inning of work.
St. Paul Starting Pitcher Pedro Hernandez also picked up a no-decision in 6 2/3 innings innings against a Canaries offense the racked up five runs on nine hits against the lefty.
With the win, the St. Paul Saints improved to 40-12 on the season, and become the fastest team to 40 victories in the American Association this season.
The Canaries will turn to RHP Jeremy Strawn (2-6, 4.59 ERA) on Friday night as they try to snap their current three-game losing streak. Strawn will toe the rubber against St. Paul’s RHP Dustin Crenshaw (7-1, 1.88ERA), who makes his third start of the season against Sioux Falls.
