Sioux Falls Drops Game Two Against Lincoln
SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota – The Sioux Falls Canaries (5-9) fall to the Lincoln Saltdogs (9-7) by a score of 10-1 on Saturday night. The Saltdogs opened game number two of the three-game series with a bang, putting five runs on the board in the first inning against Canaries’ starter Grady Wood. Jabari Henry would answer for the Canaries with a solo shot, his third big fly of the season. That cut into Lincoln’s five-run lead, but the Saltdog’s response would put them ahead for good. Lincoln scored a pair of runs in both the second and fourth innings, taking a commanding 9-1 lead. Wood exited the game after 3.2 innings, giving up 10 hits and eight earned runs, striking out a pair.
On the other side of the card, Lincoln’s starter Derek Gordon effectively shut down the Sioux Falls offense, his biggest blemish the Henry homerun. Gordon hurled seven one-run innings, surrendering only six hits and three walks. Throughout the game, eight of nine Sioux Falls batters managed to reach base in the game, but only once were multiple Canaries on base at the same time. Lincoln accomplished that feat in seven of nine innings.
The Canaries relief staff of Ryan Fritze, Nico Blank and Miles Nordgren combined to pitch 5.2 innings of one-run ball. The trio only gave up six hits in their combined outing, striking out five batters and stranding 11 Saltdogs on base.
Sioux Falls and Lincoln will play again tomorrow at 1:05 PM, each team going for the series win. Canaries fans can get tickets at the Sioux Falls Stadium box office or by calling 336-6060.
